Integrate DB2 Real-Time Statistics with all DB2 UtilitiesCDB/Real-Time Utility Manager

CDB/Real-Time Utility Manager is a DB2 facility designed to integrate DB2 Real-Time Statistics with all DB2 Utilities. CDB/Real-Time Utility Manager (CDB/RT-MAN) provides an up-to-the-second analysis of objects characteristics to facilitate database maintenance and ease the burden on DBAs. CDB/RT-MAN uses CDB Software technology and automation capabilities to streamline DB2 database maintenance and make real-time intelligent decisions on database administration.

CDB/RT-MAN works with all existing DB2 utilities so that existing procedures do not have to be changed, only improved. CDB/Real-Time Utility Manager monitors your database and provides maintenance for only objects that are in need, eliminating unecessary utility runs and reducing CPU costs and strains on batch windows.

By utilizing DB2 Real-Time Statistics, the need for DB2 Runstats for utility purposes is eliminated further reducing CPU costs and time constraints.

Two Execution Methods JCL Generation

CDB/Real-Time Utility Manager can generate utility JCL for all existing DB2 utilities, based on user defined thresholds for each DB2 object. Real-Time analysis is run in existing utility jobs so no additional processes need to be set up or run. CDB/RT-MAN automatically eliminates objects that are not in need of maintenance.

Through simple changes to existing JCL, CDB’s robust wildcarding capability can be utilized to handle newly created or dropped objects and to group objects into applications for easier database maintenance.

CDB/Real-Time Utilty Manager can be integrated into job schedulers for dynamic execution of any necessary DB2 utilities.

CDB RT-MAN gives user the complete flexibilityReal-Time Execution

In addition to all of the benefits of executing CDB/RT-MAN in JCL generation mode, CDB/RT-MAN can automatically execute utilities as they are determined to need maintenance.

A hybrid method can be employed to automatically execute higher priority objects while scheduling lower priority objects for later execution.

Flexible Criteria

CDB/Real-Time Utility Manager uses DB2 Real-Time Statistics for analysis and real-time decision making on DB2 objects. CDB/RT-MAN gives the user the complete flexibility to set criteria for an entire environment, different criteria by application, object by object, or any combination.

While most objects may follow established DB2 criteria, CDB/RT-MAN provides the flexibility to use different criteria for an individual object or group of objects. Different criteria can be dynamically used for analysis based on day of week, subsystem, userid, or many other possibilities.

Index Processing

Generally speaking Indexes are not reorged often enough while tablespaces are reorganized too often. CDB/Real-Time Utility Manager will automatically invoke tablespace reorgs only when necessary while checking the indexes for separate execution. CDB/RT-MAN can check the indexes of an object for reorganization when it is determined that the tablespace does not need to be reorganized. CDB/RT-MAN eliminates the need for a separate REORG INDEX job or extra index supervision.

WHERE clause - custom criteria can be specifiedException Criteria

Before any of the Real-Time Statistics are checked, CDB/Real-Time Utility Manager will check if objects have specified exceptions to force or prevent utility execution. Exceptions can be set in all cases for an object or group of objects or even for a specified day of week, date, date range, etc. This can be used to automatically prevent objects from being maintained during your applicaton implementations, or alternatively, force them after some such implementation.
In many environments, certain objects should not be updated by Runstats. CDB/RT-MAN accepts these restrictions and prevents execution against these objects.

WHERE CLAUSE Criteria

While DB2 Real-Time Statistics provides very useful object information, utility processing may be dependent on system information. For the ultimate flexibility, CDB offers additional WHERE clause criteria where many custom criteria can be specified. Custom criteria including job name, subsystem id, utility id, and dozens of others can be used to fine tune when utilities are run.

Utility Information

CDB/RT-MAN can generate utility history tables and trending information to provide additional information to the DBAs to help maintain an optimal DB2 environment.

Support for All Utilities

CDB/Real-Time Utility Manager supports all existing DB2 utility suites from all vendors. When used in conjunction with the CDB/Auto-Utilities you take advantage of CDB’s legendary performance and ease of use, plus tight integration with the CDB/Auto-Utilities’ Automation and scheduling facilities.

CDB/RT-MAN seamlessly integrates with the CDB/Auto-Utilities to provide fully automated DB2 maintenance at the fastest possible speeds on the largest possible objects.
