Database Mirroring brings to mind high-priced hardware solutions that are so restrictive and inflexible in their ability as well as their protection that they rarely if ever justify their incredible prices.  Database Mirroring requires specific hardware in several locations tripling or quadrupling the cost of DASD, while only protecting DB2 data in very specific disasters.  Any disaster caused by an internal application or human error, which combine for about 80% of errors, are not protected by mirroring.  In many cases, when the mirroring system will protect against disasters, the switchover time from production to mirror takes far too long to make the solution viable.
