CDB Recovery Solutions streamline Leading North American Beverage Company’s DB2 Disaster Recovery
During the past several years, the customer has been building an enterprise data warehousing application using DB2® on the z/OS® platform. With over 1.2 Terabytes contained in 12,500 datasets spread over 575 DASD volumes, the application had grown well beyond the capabilities of the customer’s existing disaster recovery (DR) procedures. Over a period of 3 years the customer had attempted to use standard DB2 recovery processes to recover the environment with unsatisfactory results.
CDB Recovery proved to be a fast, automated solution that perfectly fit the customer’s data warehousing environment. The customer’s plan called for performing first a data restore from full volume backups followed by a replay of transactions processed after the time of the backups to the desired recovery time using CDB Recovery.
CDB Recovery Solutions reduced log apply times from an estimated 2 weeks using standard DB2 Recovery to under 2.5 hours. CDB Recovery’s automation eliminated user errors, ensuring that the recovery completed in the allocated time without surprises and was run by a single DBA.
CDB Recovery Solutions offers a unique way to unlock the full potential of the information recorded in the DB2 Log. The new suite of products include data propagation, data replication, audit reporting, application recovery, SQL Undo/Redo and Full DB2 System Recovery as well as Database Mirroring.
CDB’s unique log pre-processing technology and new server technology make each function extremely fast and easy by eliminating multiple reads of the DB2 log and extending parallel processing to new levels. Each function is extremely easy to use as all that is required is a single input statement. DBAs may define applications or sets of databases to be processed at the same time. By simply naming the application, a DBA may clone, recover or audit the entire application.
